  1. 黑料不打烊 for your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) at Parents of dependent students will also be required to apply for a FSA ID. The FAFSA must be signed electronically with this FSA ID. 
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at All students must complete the FAFSA to be considered for the Pell Grant, Direct Student Loans, Work Study, SEOG and some scholarships. Students should review their FAFSA Submission Summary once they have been notified that their FAFSA has been processed.  This can be viewed by logging back into you account and following the instruction.
  3. When the federal government start processing the FAFSA, SUNY Cobleskill will have access to the processed FAFSA within three to five business days. Continuing students, as well as newly accepted students, are 鈥減ackaged鈥 with their financial aid awards on an ongoing basis. New students will receive their award letter in the mail. Continuing students will receive an email notifying them that their financial aid award information is available in Bannerweb.
  4. FAFSA FOLLOW UP: Your FAFSA may be selected for a process called 鈥渧erification鈥 by the US Department of Education. In this process, the SUNY Cobleskill Financial Aid Office is required to review your FAFSA information to ensure accuracy. If selected, you will receive a list of required documents. It is extremely important that you provide the required documents as soon as possible. Failure to provide these documents will prevent you from receiving federal student aid and you will be responsible for all tuition and charges until the verification process is complete.
  5. It is very important to open any emails from FSA or Federal Student Aid as this is their main form of communication.

  1. A FAFSA must be completed before a TAP application can be filed. New York State residents attending NYS schools will have the option to link directly to the TAP application from the FAFSA submission confirmation page. Select the link that says 鈥淔ile Your TAP Application Now.鈥 If you do not complete your TAP application when you get this link you must wait up to five business days for Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) to receive and process your completed FAFSA. HESC will also send an email to the student email from the FAFSA letting you know when the application is ready.  The TAP application is available at .
  2. Once your application has been processed you will receive a TAP/State Scholarship Award Notice. If additional information is needed to process your TAP award you will receive a Request for Information from NYS Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). Be sure to respond to this request immediately to avoid processing delays. Failure to complete the TAP application will not delay your SUNY Cobleskill financial aid award determination. TAP awards will be estimated based on FAFSA income information until the application is complete.

Excelsior Scolarship (New York State Residents Only)

**Students from families earning $125,000 or less can attend a state-operated SUNY or CUNY college tuition-free.

  1. A FAFSA and TAP application must be completed in ordere to be eligible for the scholarship
  2. Once you have completed the FAFSA and TAP you will be notified when the Excelsior application is available.  You will be able to complete it at

 

Dream Act Application

The Senator Jos茅 Peralta New York State DREAM Act gives undocumented and other students access to New York State鈥恆dministered student financial aid to support their higher education costs.

Students eligible to apply for financial aid through the must also complete an application for each program they are interested in obtaining aid from. 

 

Alternate Eligibility Path

New York State recognizes the concerns around the sensitivity of personal information students whose family members have a different immigration status may face when deciding whether or not to complete the FAFSA.

To address these concerns, we have developed an alternate path for students to apply for state-funded financial aid, ensuring a secure, accessible, and equitable process that protects the privacy of personal information while providing support to those in need.

Students from mixed status families are now eligible to apply for NYS financial aid without completing the FAFSA at . Students may also reach out to SUNY Cobleskill's Student Financial Service office to learn more about their options to apply for NYS aid.
